Pak Suzuki Motor Company continued the policy of launching imported vehicles in Pakistan.  With the launch of Suzuki Ciaz, a 1.4-litre sedan in Lahore. It is launched at a price less than 1.8 Million.

The recently launched Suzuki Ciaz is Suzuki’s attempt to give a fighting competition to  Honda City base models of Toyota Corolla .“We have seen a huge demand from the Suzuki customer base and dealers for a sedan car,” PSMC General Manager Azam Mirza told an English Daily on the sidelines of the launch event.

Sedans have been a go-to formation factor for the vast majority of car buyers in Pakistan. Despite Suzuki Liana’s cameo in the local auto market, Toyota Corolla and Honda City have served as the only two viable options for a person looking for a car under PKR 2.0 million, with four doors and a trunk at the back.

Liana came in the production line of Pak Suzuki in 2005-2006. Total production and sales from 2005-2006 till July-December 2013-2014 was below 17,000 units.

Prior to Liana, the company launched Suzuki Baleno to replace most popular Suzuki Margalla, but the car failed to lure buyers in presence of strong competitors like Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic and Honda City. According to auto dealers, Suzuki Liana had never been most sought-after vehicles due to their poor resale value. Hence Suzuki Liana and Baleno both failed miserably in Pakistan.

Liana came in the production line of Pak Suzuki in 2005-2006. Total production and sales from 2005-2006 till July-December 2013-2014 was below 17,000 units.

In India, Maruti Suzuki silenced their critics when Suzuki Ciaz outsold Honda City for the sixth month straight in December 2016. The success of Suzuki Ciaz in a competitive auto market like India also shows that maybe Suzuki has finally solved the ‘sedan equation’ for themselves. So after enjoying a great success in the neighbouring India, Suzuki hopes for better results in Pakistan too.

While Suzuki may think they have posed a threat to Toyota Corolla dominance in the local market, they are still one of the most preferred form factors of the country. Such is the magnitude of customers in the entry-level sedan segment that in December alone, every seventh locally produced car sold in Pakistan was a Toyota Corolla.

However, the company has already urged the government to allow parts imports from India so that it could introduce new vehicles in Pakistan. It remains to be seen whether the recently launched Suzuki Ciaz performs upto the level as expected by the company.
